The strangest questions I get about being vegan 🌱
If you’ve been vegan for a while, you quickly realize one thing: people are genuinely curious.
Sometimes they ask thoughtful questions.
Sometimes they ask questions so unexpected that you can’t help but smile.
Here are some of my favorites.
🄩 ā€œSo… what do you even eat?ā€
Probably the most common one.
Answer: Everything except animal products.
Vegetables, fruit, beans, lentils, grains, nuts, seeds, mushrooms—and thousands of meals made from them.
Ironically, my diet is far more diverse now than it was before I became vegan.

šŸ„ ā€œBut plants are alive too!ā€
True.
The difference is that raising animals for food requires growing far more plants to feed those animals first.
If the goal is to reduce harm, eating plants directly generally uses fewer resources and results in fewer plants being grown than producing meat.

šŸ’Ŗ ā€œWhere do you get your protein?ā€
From the same place many animals do—plants.
Beans, lentils, chickpeas, tofu, tempeh, soy foods, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and plant-based protein powders make it surprisingly easy to meet your protein needs with a well-planned diet.

šŸ§€ ā€œSurely one piece of cheese doesn’t count?ā€
It does.
For most vegans, it’s not about scoring points or following rules—it’s simply about living according to their values.

šŸļø ā€œWhat if you were stranded on a deserted island?ā€
One of my favorite hypothetical scenarios.
I’d eat whatever was necessary to survive.
Veganism isn’t about choosing death over survival—it’s about avoiding animal exploitation as far as is practical and possible.

🄚 ā€œBut hens lay eggs anyway. What’s wrong with eating them?ā€
That question usually turns into a long conversation about modern egg production, selective breeding, and animal welfare.

🦁 ā€œWould you stop lions from eating meat too?ā€
No.
Lions don’t make ethical choices.
Humans can.

šŸ° ā€œWait… this is actually vegan? And it tastes good?ā€
One of my favorite reactions.
Usually after the first bite, people stop asking questions…
…and start asking for the recipe. šŸ˜„

🄩 ā€œDon’t you miss meat?ā€
Honestly?
Not at all.
Your tastes change over time.
These days I’m much more likely to miss a perfectly ripe mango out of season than a steak.

šŸ„” The strangest question I’ve ever been asked?
ā€œCan you eat potatoes?ā€
Yes.
Potatoes.
Pasta.
Bread.
Rice.
Most everyday foods are already plant-based.
Veganism isn’t a list of restrictions—it’s simply a way of eating that excludes animal products.

Now I’m curious.
What’s the funniest or most unexpected question you’ve ever heard about veganism?
Leave it in the comments—your question might make it into Part 2. šŸŒ±šŸ‘‡
